150 Million years in the making
Nerinea’s Jurassic Fossil comes from an exclusive inland quarry, located in the outskirts of Castellon, Spain. A finite resource, characterized by the rich, almost overbearing presence of small mollusk fossils dating all the way back to the Jurassic Era. Every stone becomes a unique piece. The design allows for the material itself to remain the undisputed protagonist, while putting forth a layer of play and character which elevates these sculptures into the world of collectible design. The coarse texture of the rock, the rough relief of the fossils meet the sleek and smooth lines of Pininfarina’s DNA. Nature’s complex composition against human precision and essentiality. An embrace of opposites which creates a series of pieces that are both solid and resilient, like the material they are carved from, but at the same time fluid and aerodynamic, a core characteristic of Design made-in-Pininfarina.

The dichotomy central to the heart of this project is present even in the technology utilized by Pininfarina to create the shapes which enter the rock formations. It is not a simple stylistic touch, but rather a parametric system designed to be adaptable to all manners of shapes and sizes. It allows for the creation of sculptures where one literally can enter the piece and behold its soul.
